Kenya - Giraffes of Peace
Due to drought and conflict between the Pokot and Il-Chamu tribes, giraffes had disappeared from Kenya's Great Rift Valley. In the mid-2000s, the elders of these two ethnic groups launched a reintroduction project. Their aim was twofold: to reintroduce giraffes to the region and to reconcile the two rival peoples. From then on, the giraffe has became a symbol of peace.
